Jay’s Story

Jay is a doctor, practicing in UK.

For more than 3 years, Jay has been on dialysis 3 times a week, each time taking 5 hours attached to a dialysis machine.

Twenty-two years ago, Jay’s uncle donated a kidney to him. The kidney is no longer functioning.

Exhausting attempts to find a qualified living donor in the family, there has been no other option but to wait for a deceased donor. He waited in the UK and has tried Thailand with no luck.  The wait has been long due to the number of recipients and his high antibody level.  While waiting, he has needed treatment for various issues resulting from kidney failure.

Jay is continuing his specialist training while coping with the limitations of what the dialysis machine can achieve. Great understanding from his seniors and colleagues is sincerely and deeply appreciated.

Jay’s kidney failure resulted from a heart operation he had when he was 10 days old.  Jay was born in Singapore and looked very healthy when he arrived.  We learned within few days that his aorta was severely interrupted, and he underwent two heart operations.

As a result of this, Jay experienced a renal failure when he was ten.  It was then determined that it was due to the heart operation which starved his kidney with oxygen.

Jay’s father donated a kidney, and the transplant was performed at one of the world’s best hospitals for this operation.  However, yet another complication which occurred during the surgery resulted in the failure of the transplant.  Within the same year, Jay’s uncle was kind enough to donate his kidney to him.  This transplant lasted 20 years and allowed Jay to grow into the doctor that he is today.

Now we are hoping for a new kidney to allow Jay to continue living his productive life.
